A ONE DAY WORKSHOP
Presented by Susie Hewitt PTSTA
Often our clients can complain of body dysregulation, particularly sleep deprivation. How does this affect their quality of life, their mental health, and what benefits they can get from therapy? When working with clients with food deprivation scripts – this can hinder a client’s cognitive ability to engage in therapy. In the same way, a client’s lack of sleep can affect their functioning in therapy and their levels of anxiety or depression.
In this workshop we will learn how we can treat sleep issues with our clients. The various medical and psychological considerations, and the multiple treatment approaches we can consider and offer to our clients. Often repressed or split-off trauma can cause sleep issues, night terrors, sleep walking or talking, or pervasive and persistent nightmares.
Susie has been working with sleep issues (not always as a primary presenting issue) for many years and has a particular interest in insomnia and dream analysis. Her case study client called her his ‘sleep therapist’, as the substantive therapeutic change he declared at the end of the process was a reduction in night terrors, nightmares, and disrupted sleep.
The workshop will be didactic and experiential in content and is aimed at counsellors, psychotherapists, educators or healthcare professionals who are faced with issues that are caused by dysfunction in the family.
