5 Day course run over 5 weeks – this course is held face to face
The aim of the course is to enable people working with both children and/or adults to be able to respond effectively to their clients’ trauma. There will be group engagement and didactic and experiential teaching.
Module 1: Monday 4th March 2024 – What is Trauma? 4 Theoretical Models: Integrative approach
During this module we will identify the basic concepts and models of Trauma and theory and explore the centrality of the concept of Trauma in clinical work.
Module 2: Monday 11th March 2024 –Neurobiology, PTSD and CPTDS.
In this module we will be looking at what impact Trauma has on the body and the brain.
Module 3: Monday 18th March 2024 –Therapeutic Interventions and Treatment Options
We will look at the concept and theory of what therapeutic interventions and treatment options can be utilised to aid regulation and restore functioning to the body and the brain. What options are there to work in this field, eg complex features such as flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive images.
Module 4: Monday 25th March 2024 –Trauma Informed:- Assessment, Risk Management – including Safeguarding, Treatment Planning and Successful Outcomes. A Relational approach.
We will identify the basic concepts of how to work with Trauma, theory in working with clients with PDSD and CPTSD and understand the application of theory in clinical practice. Note: Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse, War zone and Disaster experiences, Accident and Near-Death incidents all have different features and this module will focus on impact informed approaches.
Module 5 – Monday 8th April 2024 – Vicarious Trauma, Self Care, Supervision and Referral Options. Bringing it all together – integration and re-generation for therapy/therapists.
We will look at empathetic distress, vicarious trauma, techniques of self care including supervision and referrlng clients.
This course will be of value to all practitioners including nurses, teachers, probation officers, social workers, counsellors and psychotherapists.
