In this module over two days we explore the Transaction Analysis concepts of Games Rackets and Transactions.
These concepts are three of the most important theoretical ideas within Transaction Analysis Psychotherapy training.
They make up three of the major components that a student needs, to understand ,not only theoretically but in terms of methods, when training to be a
Transactional Analyst Psychotherapist.
In the first year of Psychotherapy training in Transactional Analysis there is typically 12 to 14 students.
In the first year, they will be learning the theory of Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy in their heart and mind
In the first year there is also a large focus on personal reflection and understanding of the self, not only as a individual level ,but also at a group level.
This is vital in the training of any Psychotherapist , whether it be in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy, or any of the Humanistic Psychotherapies,it is, personal
reflection and understanding our own selves is a vital component on the journey to be a professional psychotherapist
This module on Games ,Rackets and Transactions ,looks at the defence systems, that a person might use when attempting to defend their frame of reference, for
themselves in life, and the world they live in.
In understanding Games Rackets and Transactions,we understand not only how we internally operate,but how we transact, with other people, -in other words it is an internal and external understanding of communication psychologically with others and the world.
It it is a vital weekend and in this weekend we also learn about the Drama Triangle, which is an extremely useful concept for understanding behavioural patterns
with others, and ,with regards to the psychological roles of Victim ,Rescuer ,and Persecutor.
These roles are Psychological roles -not real roles in society, they are played out by the individual internally and externally, when communicating with others,in any relational manner.
Students will learn in this weekend, how this applies to their Transaction Analysis Psychotherapy training,and how to use it as a Psychotherapist, Councillor and even Supervision in their Proffessional lives

If you are interested in doing Transaction analysis therapy the best way is to participate in the Introductory 101 Transactional Analysis workshop.
The 101 workshop TA is run over two days, and people go on this workshop to learn about themselves and often see it as a personal development two days.
On this two-day workshop you will learn a personality model of how you became the way you are, a model for personal communication, and a model of child development.
The workshop is also a prerequisite for undertaking training to do Transactional Analysis therapy.
Once you have decided that you want to become a Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist, you will need to join a four-year course to train to become a professional Psychotherapist.

Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy Training, is very different than the Psychotherapy training of Transactional Analysis of 50 years ago.
Eric Berne ,when he created the model of Tansactional Analysis ,did not envisage his Transactional Analysts working with the unconscious part of the personality, he was in many ways the early CBT therapist of the early 1950s- 1960s.
His early transactional analysis model of Parent- Adult- Child ,was very much about facilitating the patient ,to develop and strengthen his adult ego state.
This was not achieved in his opinion, by using his TA to work with the patient’s Child Ego state,but to teach him how utilise his Adult ego state, rather than his Parent or Child ego states.
Eric Berne used to teach his patients how to turn the noise down from their Parent Ego state, and to gain more power to the Adult ego state.
Eric Berne would talk about the unconscious or how to work with the Child ego state ,but he did not encourage his students, to work in depth. within the unconscious process of the client/ patient.
However 50 years, on Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy is a different animal ,and many of the later TA authors, and Psychotherapists, teach and facilitate patients on how to analyse and work with the unconscious Child ego state

Two new Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy training books, have been published in the last six months, although new psychotherapy books in TA, are being published regularly, it is worth mentioning these two specific books
Firstly, Co-creative Transactional Analysis— by Keith Tudor and Grahame Summers.
Keith and Graham are experienced psychotherapists, Supervisors, Trainers and Authors. They have created the term Co-creative Transactional Analysis, and have been writing about the concepts, and ideas for several years..
This is their first book ,where they have put all their concepts ,and ideas concerning co-creative transactional analysis, in one book.
I find this book particularly interesting and stimulating ,in the sense ,that it brings a new approach to the Transaction Analysis world. Indeed Transactional Analysis is growing, expanding, with new theories, and ideas within the realm of Transaction Analysis Psychotherapy.
This approach to Transactional Analysis is Relational and particularly current within psychotherapy in general terms, and like the ideas of Relational Transaction Analysis it brings the concept of the Relationship being central ,to cure ,within Psychotherapy as high priority
.The Second book I particularly like, is the fourth edition,of Ian Stewart’s Tansactional Analysis Counselling in action series.
Ian Stewart builds on from the previous editions of this book, and brings his ideas into 2015 and beyond.
Ian Stewart’s book is a excellent book for students of Transaction Analysis Psychotherapy. and anyone who is interested in learning to be a TA Psychotherapist .and
Councillor, this book should be at the top of any TA psychotherapists booklist, and even for experienced TA therapists it is a useful read and and certainly will refresh your
TA skills, methods and ideas.

At the Manchester Institute for psychotherapy we have this year offered a four-year diploma in Transactional Analysis taught from an ntegrative perspective.
Indeed the diploma, which is given out at the end of the four years, is in integrative Transactional Tnalysis Psychotherapy.
Transaction Analysis Psychotherapy has always been taught at the Manchester Institute for psychotherapy from an Integrative standpoint, the subject matter has
changed slightly in the sense that some of the modules of the programme are centred specifically centered Integrative Psychotherapy.
The diploma will be accredited by the European Association in Integrative Psychotherapy, therefore participants will be able to apply for the European certificate in
Integrative Psychotherapy ,if they do the corresponding case study and oral evaluation.
They will also be able, to continue on to take the Certificate in Transactional Analysis, which is endorsed by the European Association of Transaction Analysis, which
means they will be a Transactional Analyst in the United Kingdom, as well as in Europe

The 101 introduction to Transactional Analysis is a two-day workshop in the basic concepts and theory of transactional analysis. This two-day workshop is an ideal way to understand the model of Transactional Analysis from Psychotherapy stance, also you will learn Transaction Analysis with reference to education and organisations.

To book Psychotherapy sessions at the Institute, you will need first of all to have a initial Assessment, to work out who is the best Psychotherapist for you, with regards to your specific needs and wants. All assessments are held face to face at the Institute.
The Psychotherapy assessment takes half an hour and is with Bob Cooke , who is the founder of the Manchester Institute, as well as a Psychotherapist working from MIP. It’s a confidential service, as is the continuing Therapy. Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long.
At the Institute we have over 30 qualified Psychotherapists and Councillors who work with a variety of issues such as Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Childhood issues, Relationship issues, Eating Disorders, Sexual Abuse, Self-esteem and Confidence issues ,etc.
The initial assessment takes place at the Institute, and is currently held Tuesdays to Fridays between 10.00 and 3.30 pm. After this your therapy sessions can be from 8 o’clock in the morning to 9 o’clock at night. We are open weekdays 9am till 9:30pm – and some of the Psychotherapists work also on Saturday.
The Psychotherapy and Counselling services are in the strictest of confidentiality and, therefore, we create a secure and safe setting for the therapeutic assessment, and the subsequent therapy and counselling.
