Low Cost Therapy has always been a service that we provided at The Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy.
Since the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy began in 1988, the Low Cost Therapy Services have expanded to encompass the Low Cost Placement Scheme.
My belief system is that therapeutic services should be open to everyone regardless of income, colour or difference.
To that end I have always supported the Low Cost ideal and the Manchester Institute has provided subsidies and financial support in this particular arena.
In recent times there has been a considerable amount of uptake and interest in Low Cost Therapy, especially in these times of financial constraint and recession.
In 2008 we decided to offer a series of Low Cost Placements through the newly established Low Cost Therapy Clinic which was the brainchild of Bob Cooke and run administratively by Karen Burke and Stephanie Cooke.
The Low Cost Therapy Clinic is run by the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy Trainees, who are part of the Psychotherapy Training Programme at the Manchester Institute.
For Therapists to be eligible to work within the Low Cost Psychotherapy Clinic, they have first to obtain a Clinical Endorsement to Practice which awarded by the Clinical Director of the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy.
Low Cost Therapy is open to anyone who are earning under £15,000.00 per annum and at the moment of writing is £15.00 for the hour.
To get Low Cost Therapy you need first of all to ring the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy (0161 862 9456) or go through their website www.mcpt.co.uk .
After you have contacted the Institute you will be expected to attend for a half an hour assessment to work out who is the best therapist for you to see according to your specific needs.
The Low Cost Therapy Placement lasts for 6 months and if you need more therapy after this time you can progress on to our Ongoing Therapy Support Programme, to obtain continuing therapeutic services.
