Stop Thinking About Your Thinking!

“You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.” ~Eleanor Roosevelt

Linda Esposito begins her final blog about social anxiety by quoting the above. Do you agree? She says that most people are genuinely kind and genuinely busy so they are not going to focus on you and your perceived mistakes they are too busy getting on with making their own!

One of her points has really struck me though. She remarks  that if you have allowed your mind to imprison you you will wake up one day and realise all that you have missed out on. So stop thinking about your thinking!

23 Incredibly Empowering Quotes That Will Change Your Life

Every so often you come across a gem of a blog and here in my opinion is one such gem. Elle in her blog ‘reflectingalife.com’ talks about those times when we need to be inspired. When the negative self-talk begins to take over Elle has put  together quotes to put you back on track.  Elle believes repeating an empowering quote that resonates with you can be really beneficial and very effective at banishing those negative thoughts.

Take a look at the list and see which ones stand out to you.  I think this might vary depending on how you are feeling today. My favourite one today is by someone unknown.

”It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.”

How Your Thoughts Create Your Brain

We all realise that our brain creates our thoughts. However in reality our thoughts create our brain too.

So how does this work? This is because every thought creates a neural connection. Therefore if you think a thought regularly enough the neural connection will grow stronger, especially  if there’s an emotional attachment to it. The opposite to this is if a memory has little use, or is rarely stimulated, eventually those neural connections will largely wither away from disuse.

This is a really interesting article and discusses how stress can effect your brain and how we can get into patterns of negative thoughts called cognitive distortions.
